Can Grok turn off my lights?

Short answer: sometimes, through your phone β€” but Grok is not a home hub. Grok doesn't control Wi-Fi bulbs, plugs, or speakers on your network directly, and there's no Grok smart speaker. Keep Alexa (or Siri/Google) for lamps and timers; use Grok for the thinking and booking jobs.

Based on public reporting of the Oct 22, 2026 Grok Bot phone-app rollout (e.g. Digital Trends). We have not tested every brand or a full real house. Not an official Apple, Google, Amazon, X, or xAI guide.

WayAnswerNotes
Phone Home app (Apple Home / Google Home app on your phone)βœ… Yes (new)Grok Bot can use the Home app on your phone after you tap Allow for it (iOS + Android, per-app). Should work for lights already set up in that app β€” we haven't verified every brand. Test one light first.
Home Assistant / SmartThingsπŸŒ‰ BridgePower-user path via their API or a connector. Takes setup; worth it if you already run one.
Hue / Ring / ecobee via IFTTTπŸŒ‰ BridgeThird-party bridge. Untested by us β€” expect some fiddling.
Google Home direct connector❌ NoThere's no direct Grok–Google Home connector. Use the phone Home-app path instead.
Alexa for lamps, timers, kitchenπŸ‘ Keep itAlexa is local and instant. Grok is better at multistep stuff: reminders, calendar, booking, ordering.

Try this (phone Home-app path)

  1. Make sure the light already works in your phone's Home app (Apple Home or Google Home).
  2. Update the Grok app, then ask Grok Bot something like "Turn off the living room lamp."
  3. When it asks to use Home, tap Allow. You can turn this off later in settings.
  4. Test one light. If it works, try a room. If not, tell us the brand (below).
